A Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in October has had their bail extended to December, as per the Athletic.

The Brighton & Hove Albion player – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was arrested alongside a man in their 40s after being removed from a nightclub on the South Coast following reports of a sexual assault taking place.

At the time of the arrest, a spokesperson for Sussex police said: “Two men have been arrested after a woman reported being sexually assaulted at a venue in Brighton, in the early hours of Wednesday. A man in his forties and a man in his twenties, both from Brighton, were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remain in police custody at this time.”

Brighton released a statement after the news was confirmed: “Brighton and Hove Albion are aware that one of its players is assisting police with the investigation of an alleged offence. The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment at this time.”

Both men were released on conditional bail, which was due to expire on Wednesday (3 November), however Sussex police have confirmed that date has now been extended to 6 December.

A statement read: “The bail date for both individuals has been extended to Monday, December 6 while investigations continue.

“No further information is available at this time.”

The player strongly denied all allegations at the time of the arrest and as of yet, Brighton & Hove Albion are yet to release an updated statement.
