Diallo was released by police without charge on Thursday after her arrest the previous night
Paris Saint-Germain women’s midfielder Aminata Diallo has denied any involvement in the attack on her teammate Kheira Hamraoui, as per the BBC.
Diallo was arrested on Wednesday 10 November but released by police without charge just a day later.
Reports say the 26-year-old was driving Hamraoui home after a team meal in Paris, before they were stopped and Hamraoui was dragged out of the car by two masked men, with one hitting the 31-year-old repeatedly in the leg with an iron bar before leaving the scene.
Hamraoui has been treated in hospital, receiving stitches in both her arm and her leg, missing her side’s Champions League fixture against Real Madrid – in which Diallo played.
According to French outlet L’Equipe , the attack was organised by Diallo to injure her teammate so that she wouldn’t be able to play, as both players compete for the same position at PSG and the French national team.
In a statement from Diallo, released on her behalf by her lawyer, she said that the investigation would show her “complete and total innocence”.
Diallo also criticised the “media speculation which has already condemned her, without justification,” and has said she will not hesitate to launch legal action if necessary against any defamation.
Following the release of Diallo, PSG released a statement which read: “We note that Aminata Diallo has been released. The club continues to stand by our players to help them get through this ordeal and swiftly return to calm.”
A 34-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also arrested but has since been released by police without charge.
