Radamel Falcao has his say on VAR and it’s not positive

He wasn't happy about how PSG won the final

He’s not a fan of the new innovation.

Monaco lost the Couple de La Ligue to Paris Saint-Germain this weekend 3-0 in a final that sparked controversy after VAR was called upon twice, with both decisions going in PSG’s favour.

The first, admittedly, looks to be correct. VAR should not have even been necessary to see that Kylian Mbappé was fouled

When PSG were leading by two goals, Falcao scored a header that would have made the game 2-1. Everyone accepted that it was a goal, took their positions and was ready for the game to restart. Until the referees decided to have another look. The replays showed that Falcao was a millimetre offside and the goal was chalked off. Monaco had lost the momentum.

PSG then went on to win the game 3-0. Understandably, Falcao wasn’t pleased with how the game had panned out. Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the game, he revealed how he was not a fan of the new technology.

“It’s frustrating when in two cases where there has been VAR, it has served to help PSG,” he said, visibly upset.

“Sometimes, after looking at the images, nothing is clear and this kind of thing can kill football.

“Reviewing the penalty lost four minutes and there four more for my goal.

“Tell me why the referee then only added two at the end of the game?”

He admitted that PSG were the better side, but still lamented how they won the game.

“PSG are very good but they needed the video referee to help them to beat us.”
