Robbie Keane scores delicious half volley in first game as player/manager

He hasn't lost the touch of class

He’s still going strong.

A day after it was announced that he would take over Indian Super League club ATK in a player/manager capacity, Robbie Keane was again rattling the net.

The Republic of Ireland’s record goalscorer has been in flying form on the other side of the world for the Kolkata based outfit ever since he joined them last year.

The 37-year-old has scored five goals in 8 appearances this term. His form has stayed solid during a disappointing run of form for the club. ATK, who have parted ways with two managers, in Teddy Sheringham and Ashley Westwood since the beginning of 2018 are lagging at the foot of the table, in ninth position out of just ten teams.

Keane will have a tough job on his hands as he attempts to plot his way up the table, but he led by example in his first game in charge.

Just ten minutes into ATK’s clash with North East United, the former Tottenham striker was doing what he does best – meeting a looping cross on the half volley and masterfully steering it into the back of the net.

It really was a classic Keane goal. After ghosting in behind the defence, a cool, deft flick of that famous right boot was all it took.

That was what he delivered.

He hasn’t lost the touch of class.
