Keane was not happy with Richards’ suggestion
Roy Keane well and truly lost his temper in the aftermath of Manchester United’s derby day defeat to Manchester City after they were beaten 2-0.
It was a comfortable performance from the Citizens who won thanks to an Eric Bailly own goal and Bernardo Silva’s close-range finish on the stroke of half-time.
United looked lacklustre and with no sight of looking like they would get back into the game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Donny van de Beek who has been restricted to a handful of opportunities since being at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was welcomed by a loud cheer of support when he entered the pitch, however he failed to make any sort of impact.
And he was the centre of Keane’s frustrations after fellow pundit Micah Richards suggested that he should be given more of a chance – with the Irishman losing his cool.
“Are you saying van de Beek is the answer?” exclaimed Keane.
“He was in at the back end of last season and he was average, very average.”

Richards then interrupted saying: “He needs to be given a chance.
“We talked about Fred and McTominay. We have the same conversation every time.”
Keane, clearly deflated by what he had seen from his former side did spark some humour by saying that he “might smash into somebody just to make me feel better…”
The post-match analysis saw plenty of arguments with Richards and Souness also going head to head over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defending for City’s second goal.
