A touch of class from Liverpool
Sadio Mane has revealed the lengths that Liverpool have gone to help him and his fellow Muslim teammates during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan begins on April 2 and ends on May 2, when Muslims will celebrate Eid Mubarak. As part of the traditions, Muslims are required to fast during daylight hours – meaning no food or fluids are consumed as a way of helping to cleanse the soul and mind.
Mane revealed a conversation with Jordan Henderson helped the club’s Muslim players to adapt
Both Mane and forward Mohamed Salah are observing Ramadan and while the Senegal international has admitted it is difficult to play football during the holy month, he and Salah have been well-looked after by Liverpool to allow them to adapt and maintain high performance levels.
“It’s not easy because playing and training during Ramadan is not easy at all,” he told beIN Sports.
“But before Ramadan we tried to speak with the captain and to tell the boss that maybe we could change the schedule to train in the morning.
“That’s easier for us and if you train in the morning you have time to rest and go home, it’s going to be tough if not because if you train at like two or three as before, it’s going to be tough.
“The coach said yes and that has made things easier and we’re trying to do our best.”
The club’s head of nutrition has also been helpful
Mane also revealed that playing while fasting presents a variety of different issues – something which the club’s head of nutrition, Mona Nemmer, has helped them through.
