Understandably, Liverpool supporters will want Mo Salah to be performing at his very best on Saturday evening.
The Egyptian international has enjoyed an incredible first season at Anfield, playing a significant role in the club reaching the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev.
In the buildup to the final, some reports had claimed that Salah, a devout Muslim, would be fasting as part of Ramadan. This, it has now been made clear, is not true.
Like many other Muslims, Salah has been abstaining from eating and drinking during daylight hours as part of Ramadan, which started on May 16.
However, Ruben Pons, Liverpool’s physio, has now confirmed that Salah will be breaking his fast so as to be in the best condition possible for the big game.
“We were in Marbella and the nutritionist established a work plan,” he has told Spanish radio station Cadena SER [via The Independent]. “Tomorrow and the day of the match he won’t, so it’s not going to affect him.”
Salah has scored 44 times since arriving from AS Roma last summer, breaking the Premier League scoring record jointly held by Alan Shearer, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The last of his goals came in Liverpool’s victory over Brighton on May 13, meaning he is yet to play since the start of Ramadan.
