Plenty of players switch allegiances over time.
Jamie Carragher was famously an Everton fan growing up while John Terry used to support Manchester United when he was young.
We’ve known for several years that Sergio Aguero used to have a special fondness for Liverpool but never knew the reason why until now.
“When I was a boy, I liked Liverpool because I played for Independiente and the team colours were red as well,” Aguero said.
“And at the time, I was inspired by Michael Owen.”

Interestingly, prior to Aguero’s 2011 move to the Etihad Stadium, the Argentine striker revealed that Liverpool would be his preferred destination in the Premier League.
Speaking in 2007, just a year after the forward joined Atletico Madrid, he said:Â “If I had to choose a league then it would be the Premier League.
“I have been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember and it would be a dream to play there. I watched the Champions League final and celebrated every goal as if it was for Independiente,” Aguero told German newspaper Munich TZ.
Aguero has scored 204 goals in 297 appearances for City since his £38 million move seven years ago and is currently in the penultimate season of his contract.
