This could be very good news for Liverpool fans.
Sergio Ramos will miss the first leg of Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final after breaching UEFA suspension rules during last night’s thriller against Juventus.
With his time trailing 3-0 the Madrid captain came down the tunnel and onto the sidelines to bark out some orders and rally his flailing teammates, who were pushing for a decisive goal to go through. You know. General Ramos-y things. Lots of pointing and shouting and yelling obscenities in Spanish.
He would, presumably, have even ran on the pitch and powered in a couple of headers had he not been in his jeans and trainers. Even so, you know the thought definitely, definitely crossed his mind.

The crucial goal did come, eventually, with Cristiano Ronaldo converting a 93rd minute penalty after Lucas Vasquez was clumsily charged from behind by Mehdi Benatia in the area. As you may have already seen, poor Gigi Buffon was far from pleased with referee Michael Oliver’s decision to award a spot kick.
Ramos’ involvement from the sidelines has come at a hefty price with rules stating that a suspended player aren’t allowed down the tunnel during a game. Judging by how the rest of his team coped without him in this game, a goal down after only two minutes, going in 2-0 down at halftime, and then conceding the softest of soft goals shortly after the restart, this is very good news for the three other teams left in the competition.
The draw for the semi-finals takes place tomorrow at 1pm, with Liverpool, AS Roma, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid going into the hat. Salah, Mane and Firmino against a Ramos-less Madrid? Woof.
