Ivory Coast goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare was left in tears
Sierra Leone snatched a late draw against the Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night after a mistake from Badra Ali Sangare gifted them a last-minute point.
Sebastien Haller had given the Ivorians the lead before Sierra Leone’s Musa Noah Kamara equalised shortly before the hour-mark
Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe restored the Elephants’ lead as they looked set to hold on to a 2-1 win. With minutes left to play, keeper Sangare went to collect a headed back-pass to stop the ball from going out for a corner.
At first it looked like he was going to make a routine catch, but the 35-year-old then appeared to get caught in the ground of the pitch, causing him to lose his footing and drop the ball in the process.

Seizing the opportunity, Sierra Leone’s Alhaji Kamara rolled the ball into the empty net, whilst Sangare smacked the ground in frustration and was left in tears following his costly error.
However, he may have also been suffering from the fall and was unable to complete the rest of the game, eventually being replaced in goal by Serge Aurier after the Ivory Coast had used all three substitutions earlier in the game.
The result means that the Ivory Coast still have work to do in their final group game against the current tournament holders, and one of the favourites for this year’s competition, Algeria to qualify for the knockout stages.
