Stan Collymore has an ambitious solution for Liverpool’s goalkeeping problem

That's simply not going to happen

Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Stan Collymore is an ambitious character.

In his attempt to pinpoint the perfect solution for Liverpool’s goalkeeping problem, Collymore has identified arguably the most unlikely option on the planet.

Jurgen Klopp has no issues in the goalscoring department, with his front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane finding the net for fun this season.

Klopp tried to redress his side’s defensive shakiness by bringing in centre-half Virgil van Dijk for £75 million in January and now the only glaring problem remaining at Anfield is the lack of a reliable goalkeeper.

Loris Karius has nailed down the No. 1 spot with the Reds, resigning Simon Mignolet to deputisation duties, but neither stopper has been able to fill supporters with confidence.

Liverpool have been linked with a big-money move for Roma ‘keeper Allison but former forward Stan Collymore has some rather out-there advice for the club he used to call home.

“When people say what type of goalkeeper, whether young or old, I would say go for one with experience,” Collymore wrote in his Mirror column.

“A player like Petr Cech or Joe Hart, who has won the Premier League, can bring that experience into the dressing room.

“Gigi Buffon is talking about retiring at the end of the season. Why not go and make him a megabucks offer?

“An incredible presence, an incredible footballing icon, to walk into another great football club from Juventus and say right I’m going to have two years here.

“I’m going to help bring through the next goalkeeping prodigy at Liverpool, and I’m going to help them win the title.

“What a fitting end to a great career that would be.”
