Steven Gerrard rolls back the years with wonderful solo goal in front of the Kop

Stevie G has still got it, even in slow motion

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard rolled back the years on Saturday with a brilliant solo goal in front of the Kop to win a charity game for Liverpool Legends against – who else – AC Milan.

Gerrard played a one-two with former pace merchant Djibril Cisse and collected the ball just outside the Milan area. He then proceeded to twist and turn his way past the first defender, who had his head on a swivel, fool two more with a dummy shot on his left and then cut back onto his right, firing into the bottom corner for the fifth goal and winner of the 3-2 thriller.

As all the players can’t run anymore it was only an 80-minute match, meaning the strike was technically yet another last-minute winner for the Anfield legend.

Whilst we’re on the subject of great midfielders rolling back the years, here’s Andrea Pirlo doing what Andrea Pirlo does best and curling in a free-kick with the consummate ease of an old man taking off his slippers.

Robbie Fowler put the Liverpool Legends in front after 25 minutes before Cisse added a second. Pirlo sparked the comeback with the freekick and Giueseppe Pancaro levelled matters soon after, setting up Steven Gerrard’s grandstand finish.

The best moment of the day, however, came from former Liverpool shot-stopper Jerzy Dudek, who had a quite beautiful interaction with a young disabled fan watching.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again and again: Imagine not liking football. Just imagine it.
