Three recently severed ties with Chelsea
British telecommunications company Three have urged Chelsea to remove their logo from their shirts “as soon as possible.”
They were one of several club partners to sever ties with the west London side in response to the sanctions imposed on outgoing owner Roman Abramovich.
It was originally expected that the Three logo would not appear on the shirts as of their most recent fixture against Newcastle United, however it was still seen on the kits.
Under the special license given to Chelsea by the government, they are ordered to keep the Three logo on their kit in order to allow them to continue to operate as a football club.
The Club World Cup champions are also unable to print new kits as a result of the sanctions imposed on the club, affecting certain operations, which include a ban on selling merchandise and tickets.
But the telecommunications company have now told Chelsea that they must get rid of their logo as soon as they can.
A spokesperson for the company, via The Athletic said: “We understand from discussions with Chelsea FC that there are ongoing issues with removing the Three logo from the shirts, as a result of kit supply issues and licence restrictions.
“We have requested that Chelsea reverts with a solution to this issue as soon as possible.”
All of Three’s sponsorships has been removed from Chelsea’s digital assets, such as the club store, but it still features on the club’s physical assets as a result of the license agreement.
This includes the likes of advertising boards around Stamford Bridge as well as around the ground too.
