A timescale on his recovery is still to be confirmed
Harry Kane was forced out of Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League win over Manchester City on Tuesday with what the club have now confirmed as a “significant” ankle injury.
The England striker has a history of problems in that area and Spurs fans feared the worst when he trudged off the pitch following his tough tackle on Fabian Delph in the second half of the 1-0 quarter-final victory.
Following tests, Kane’s condition was confirmed on Thursday night with the North London club defining the blow as a “significant lateral ligament injury”.
An official medical update stated: “Investigations are ongoing and he will continue to be assessed by our medical staff over the coming week.”
Manchester City await in both the quarter-final second leg and Premier League in the coming week-and-a-half, with Spurs fighting on two fronts. Their qualification for next season’s Champions League is far from confirmed after a tough run of form reduced their gap to fifth down to one point.
Also announced in the update was the fate of Dele Alli’s hand injury, after the midfielder also came off in the win over City.
Alli clutched his wrist as he was substituted in the dying moments and tests reveal his injury to be a fractured left hand. However, there is a chance he can play with a cast and club doctors will monitor his condition in the coming days.
“The England midfielder will now be assessed to determine his availability for this weekend’s fixture against Huddersfield Town,” it was confirmed.
