Well played
Since Mauricio Pochettino took over from Tim Sherwood in 2014, Tottenham Hotspur have been on an upward trajectory and have cemented their status as one of the big boys in the Premier League.
Pochettino’s revolution has led Spurs to three consecutive top four finishes, sparking debate about whether the tide has truly turned. Not just in north London, but in all of London.
“WHEN’S THE PARADE?”, I hear your father shout from afar. And it’s a fair point, I suppose. They haven’t won a trophy under Pochettino, yet they have come close on a few occasions, only to be let down by a lack of experience against bigger, richer, more semi-final savvy teams. But their progress is an achievement in itself, and moving into their new stadium, they have bragging rights over their London rivals.
For so long, Spurs would have to endure being mocked for playing on ‘Thursday night, Channel 5’ (although I’m not sure when the Europa League was last broadcast on channel 5), while Arsenal and Chelsea battled it out with Europe’s elite and in Arsenal’s case, often got embarrassed.
Not anymore. For the 2018/19 season, Spurs will be the only London team competing in the UEFA Champions League, with Arsenal finishing 6th again, and Chelsea just one place above them.
Spurs saw an opportunity to really sub salt in the wound and grabbed it with both hands.

What better way to assert your superiority over your local rivals than to remind them of their shortcomings while also advertising your new stadium.
Well played, Tottenham Marketing Team. Well played.
