England’s chances of success have suffered a huge setback before the tournament has even begun
England’s Euro 2020 camp has been rocked by news that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the entire tournament.
The Liverpool right-back sustained a thigh injury in last night’s friendly win over Austria.
He immediately signalled towards the bench after sustaining the injury, and now it seems England’s worst fears have come to fruition as he will miss the entirety of the Euro 2020 campaign.
After the match against Austria, England manager Gareth Southgate said:
“We’ve got to see, it’s obviously not a good sign that he’s had to walk off the pitch, and he was in some discomfort.
“We’re so close to the finals that for any player, injuries makes them a doubt. But we will just have to see over the next 48 hours.”
A scan revealed that the full-back suffered a grade two tear of the thigh muscle, which is expected to keep him out for four to six weeks.
Reports suggest he will leave the England camp and return home to Merseyside tonight.

Alexander-Arnold was one of four right-backs picked by England manager Gareth Southgate – with Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker also making the final 26 man squad.
The absence of the Liverpool man will undeniably hinder England’s chances significantly, given his set piece specialism and ability to deputise further forward in midfield.
