Finally, a breakthrough for Chelsea; finally, a breakthrough for Willian.
No player on the Stamford Bridge turf had deserved it more. In a first half where chances had been sparse, the Brazilian had cracked two efforts against both of Barcelona’s posts.
With an hour played at Stamford Bridge, Willian was picked out by Eden Hazard on the edge of the Barca box. The Spanish side had not learned from their two earlier warnings. As several of their players attempted to eat up the ground between them and him, Willian shifted the ball on to his right foot and struck a low drive past everybody.
Into the corner it went. Advantage, for now at least, was Chelsea’s.
