The Chilean could be Old Trafford bound.
Following Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth, Arsene Wenger was speaking to the press about his decision to omit Alexis Sanchez from the starting XI and the Chilean’s immediate future.
“Alexis would have played. But it’s a difficult period for him, he has always been committed until now, but he could have moved yesterday or today, or not. It (his future) will be decided in the next 48 hours. It could happen today, tomorrow or not at all. I didn’t want to travel with him and then he goes somewhere,” said Wenger.
On the need to replace Sánchez after his imminent departure, he said : “If Sanchez goes, we need to replace him. When you look today we missed many players today. If he goes, we have to respond.”
After the match at the Vitality Stadium, the Sky Sports cameras turned their attention to Anfield as Liverpool and Man City served up a cracker.
Watching the two matches from the studio was Graeme Souness and the former Liverpool, Blackburn and Southampton manager appeared to be livid over Sanchez’ apparent decision to join Mourinho’s side.
Again, nothing official has been confirmed yet but the Sky Sports pundit made his feelings on the issue clear.
“There’s an element of tapping-up involved. Someone meets someone when they shouldn’t meet someone and a conversation takes place. That happens all the time. It always has and it always will do. I imagine that in this situation, the numbers have all been thrashed out and how it’s got to this situation – when someone can come along and hijack it – I’d be mystified,” he said.
