There is quite literally nothing at stake in this game.
We’re at that point in the season where pretty much everything has been decided. The three relegated teams are all but confirmed, the top four is done. The only battle still going is the race for sixth, between Arsenal and Burnley.
So this afternoon’s game between Manchester City, who became champions last weekend after Man United’s home loss, and Swansea, who are near the bottom but will almost certainly be fine, had very little riding on it.
From City’s perspective, all they needed to do was win, just to ensure that their post-match celebration party wasn’t tarnished. But as City do, they won in style, and their player of the season Kevin de Bruyne scored his best goal of the season.
De Bruyne has spent most of the season assisting his teammates with defence splitting passes, but today he fancied getting in on the act. As a loose ball fell to him, he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that flew past Fabianski and nestled in.

He might not win PFA Player of the Season, given how many goals Mo Salah has got this season, but this goal just gave us all a reminder – as if we needed one – of what De Bruyne is capable of.
