It was his 600th career goal
We have become so accustomed to Lionel Messi scoring great goals through his career that we hardly blink when he scores one now; he has an ability to make the extraordinary look ordinary. But every so often, he will score a goal that reminds you just how good he is.
On Sunday afternoon, Barcelona welcomed 2nd place Atlético Madrid to the Camp Nou for a game which would decide whether or not ‘Hay Liga’, as they say in Spain – roughly translated as ‘there is league/a title race’.
Atléti went into this game on 61 points, just 5 behind Barcelona with the hope of closing the gap, or at least stopping it from getting wider. But Messi put a dent in their title hopes after 25 minutes when he bent a trademark free kick into the top corner. Jan Oblak got a fingertip to it, but could not keep it out.

It was one of those goals. Everyone knows he’s going to shoot. Everyone knows where he is going to put it. No-one can stop him.
Messi scored his 600th goal to beat Atletico and surely clinch La Liga for @FCBarcelona. If he were just a goal scorer it would be astonishing, but the fact he’s also the best dribbler I’ve ever seen and as good a passer as I’ve ever seen makes him the best I’ve ever seen. 🐐
