This is a lovely moment
We all imagine it, regardless of what age we now are. We imagine the call, or watching the television, and discovering that yes – we – have been called up to our respective national team for the World Cup.
Unfortunately it is a pipe dream for many of us, but while we are left to dream in vain, this moment is exactly what Brazilian full-back Fagner experienced yesterday as the country’s World Cup squad was announced on television.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed an interesting career, starting off with Corinthians in Brazil before joining PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2007. He made three appearances there before returning to Brazil with Vasco da Gama in 2008, where he went on to make 120 appearances in four years.
Success there provided him with another chance for a European move, but in two years at Wolfsburg he played just 26 times during a spell which also involved loan spells back at Vasco da Gama and Corinthians.
He then returned to Corinthians permanently, a spell which has seen him enjoy probably the best success of his career to date.
He earned his first call up to the Brazil squad after being selected by manager Tite in August 2016 at the age of 27.
And yesterday, as the below video shows, Fagner – a player with just four caps to his name – discovered that he was going to Russia. The rest is best simply watched. He looks extremely happy, and we’re very happy for him.
