Wilfried Zaha nearing return to Manchester

The Premier League Player of the Month for April has impressed one manager in particular this season

He was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing.

Crystal Palace’s star man Wilfried Zaha could be returning to Manchester in the summer, but this time for United’s cross-city rivals. Pep Guardiola has been impressed with the winger’s scintillating since returning from injury, which has helped Palace stay up after relegation looked on the cards early in the season, and could pay £50 million to sign the player for Manchester City, according to the Mirror.

Zaha, 25, joined Manchester United for £15 million in 2013 but struggled at Old Trafford. After an unsuccessful loan at Cardiff, he returned to Crystal Palace initially on loan but then permanently for only £3 million and add-ons.

There are no lingering doubts about the player’s quality now, however, and his blistering run in April saw him pick up his very first Premier League Player of the Month. He has also been named Crystal Palace’s Player of the Season for the last three years.

The other option for Pep is Leicester wide man Riyad Mahrez, for whom he had a bid of £60 million rejected during the January transfer window.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson has stated recently that “it’s inevitable we are going to lose a few good players in the summer,” further increasing speculation that the Ivorian star will be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season after firing them to yet another great escape.
