This isn’t how one-year deals work, Willo…
Willo Flood has left Dunfermline, nine days after he signed for the club.
The 33-year-old, who began his career at Manchester City, had joined Dunfermline after spending the last two seasons with Dundee United.
A statement released by the club on Wednesday confirmed that Flood had now terminated his contract. The player had made it clear before joining Dunfermline that he had ambitions of playing abroad and a clause allowing him to make such a move had been inserted into his contract.
Such an opportunity has arisen, with Flood now receiving an ‘attractive offer’ from Bali United in Indonesia.
“We’re obviously disappointed to lose a player of Willo’s experience,” manager Allan Johnston said. “But he had a clause in his contract for a very short window to allow him to move abroad.
“There is simply no point retaining an unhappy player at our club,” he added, also confirming that Dunfermline have retained a first refusal option on Flood should he return to Scotland.
“I would like to thank Allan and the club for their understanding in this matter,” Flood said. “I fully understand it leaves them in a very difficult and embarrassing position.
“The opportunity is just too good for me and my family to turn down.
“I have only been in training a week but have really enjoyed my short time at East End Park and genuinely wish the club every success this season.”
