Wycombe Wanderers are reportedly contemplating legal action against the Championship club Derby County
This comes as Wayne Rooney’s Rams are challenging the EFL over alleged breaches of spending rules, which is likely to lead to points being deducted next season.
The club is still awaiting the outcome of the independent tribunal.
Derby County avoided the drop into League One by a single point on Saturday’s final day of the season after a 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, who themselves were relegated.
Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig, a lawyer, said the club could potentially fight to get Derby County punished this season.
He said: “I don’t know that the season is over yet.
“To me, we have accumulated all the points we can and now we will see what happens.
“People tell me that Derby County have issues out there. I don’t know whether we’re ready to go to lawyers yet. The message is: Watch this space.”
This comes after Sheffield Wednesday suffered a points deduction for breaching financial rules last season. The club had a total of 12 points deducted for the start of this season, which was later reduced to six.
On Saturday, the Rams finished just one point above Wycombe Wanderers with a total of 44 points, whilst Rotherham United ended with 42 points and Sheffield Wednesday finished with 41.
It remains unclear whether points will be deducted from the Rams this season, or if the club will begin the next season on minus points.
