It was reported over 30,000 Frankfurt fans were in attendance

Barcelona boss Xavi was left angered by the number of Eintracht Frankfurt fans who travelled to the Nou Camp to watch their side.

Reports have suggested that as many as 30,000 Frankfurt fans travelled to Spain to witness a historic 3-2 win against Barça to secure their place in the semi finals of the Europa League, despite only officially being allocated 5,000 tickets.

Frankfurt had been leading 3-0 at one stage

The Bundesliga side raced into a 3-0 lead courtesy of Filip Kostic’s brace either side of a wonder goal from Rafael Borre however the home side were able to score two consolations through Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay.

Barcelona’s defeat ended a run of 15 games unbeaten which has put them back into the frame of securing Champions League football, as oppose to qualifying via the Europa League route.

Barça boss admitted the atmosphere got to his players

After the game the Barça boss confirmed that his side were affected by the atmosphere and that the club would be investigating as to how so many Frankfurt fans got tickets to the home end.

“Clearly the atmosphere did not help and the club is looking into why this happened,” he said.

“The players want to know why too. It was a clear miscalculation on our part.

“This cannot be allowed to happen. It was more like a final with the stadium divided.”

Club president Joan Laporta also voiced the same opinion as the Spaniard and described the events of Thursday night as a “disgrace.”

“It’s a disgrace what has happened. I feel embarrassed. As a culer I feel ashamed and I am really sorry about what I have seen.”

Frankfurt’s win against the Catalan giants means they will face West Ham United in the semi-finals for a place in the final in Seville.
