Zlatan Ibrahimovic drops very Zlatan-like hint that he’ll play at the World Cup

Wil Jones

Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired from international football in June 2016.

Sweden finished bottom of their group at Euro 2016, and despite playing every minute of their three group matches, Ibrahimovic only managed one shot on target. Since then he had a successful first season at Manchester United, an injury-blighted second season, and recently moved to LA Galaxy, where he’s already bagged three goals in three games.

Despite now being 36, there’s always been speculation that he’d return to the Swedish national side for the World Cup. In March, he was quoted as saying “The door isn’t closed for anything”.

Now he’s made his biggest hint yet that he’ll be playing in Russia. After scoring against Chicago Fire in his first start for Galaxy, he tweeted this:

“The chance of me playing in the World Cup is skyhöga.”

For you non-Swedish speakers out there, ‘skyhöga’ roughly translates as ‘soaring’ or ‘sky-high’.

Never, ever write Zlatan off.
