Zlatan Ibrahimović picks his Manchester United Player of the Year

It's hard to argue with him

It had to be him

After ‘conquering England in 3 months’ Zlatan Ibrahimović has moved on to his final chapter as a footballer. He’s lighting up MLS and basking in the all the admiration that has been pouring in from his new fans across the pond, and who can blame him?

Though his spell in England was his penultimate, and tainted by a horrific knee injury at the end of the 2016/17 season, he remains a fan favourite among Manchester United supporters. His character is infectious. He’s the sort of player we love to hate, because we wish he played for our team.

Anyway, the bond he formed with the United faithful is still strong, and while he is now wearing the white of the LA Galaxy, he always has time to send United a message of love and support.

Manchester United’s official Twitter account today tweeted a video of Zlatan, speaking to the camera, reminiscing about his time at Old Trafford. The Swedish striker also offered his take on which player should win United’s Player of the Season.

Uncontroversially, he went for David De Gea. He acknowledged that it is unusual for a goalkeeper to win individual awards, but highlighted the consistently high level that the Spanish goalkeeper has performed at over the past year, and several years prior.

Romelu Lukaku has had a relatively impressive first season, and Jesse Lingard has scored several important goals, but it’s hard to argue with Zlatan here.
