A former Spain and Premier League star is set to join the BBC punditry team for the Euro 2024 final.

Juan Mata, winner of the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euros will join Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards for the BBC coverage of the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder will be making his first punditry performance for this Euros.

The attacking midfielder was a hugely popular figure in London and Manchester, admired for his talent as well as his kind nature off the pitch.

BBC and ITV have competed during the tournament to provide the best football coverage to the watching public, with BBC pulling this trump card late on thanks to the connection Mata has to both nations.

Both the major broadcasters will be showing the final so fans will have the choice of who they listen to.

Juan Mata scored the last time Spain reached a European Championship final, scoring in a 4-0 win against Italy in Kyiv in 2012 and was also part of the Spanish squad that won the 2010 World Cup.

Mata scored 10 goals in 41 games for Spain while also making 278 Premier League appearances during stints at Chelsea and Manchester United winning a host of trophies.
