France through to last 16 with last minute heroics from Griezmann and Payet

Déjà vu

Ben Kenyon

France don’t half like to leave it to the last minute.

Antoine Griezmann headed home in the 90th minute to put them 1-0 up against a resolute Albania.

But if anyone thought the Atletico Madrid striker’s header was the clinching goal, then they hadn’t banked on Dmitri Payet popping up at the death.

The West Ham star left it late to score the winner in the opener against Romania last week.

But Payet sealed the deal at the death yet again with a goal six minutes into injury time to give France a more comfortable-looking win on paper.

What a difference seven minutes made for the hosts who were staring down the barrel of one the most profligate 0-0- draws since the 80s…

It was a lovely header from the unmarked Griezmann who struck the killer blow just before the 90 minute mark to send Les Blues into raptures…

But Payet was not going to be outshone on the night at the Stade Velodrome and bagged his second of the tournament.

His hammers boss Slaven Bilic couldn’t contain himself…

The win put France through to the last 16 and everyone was quite rightly praising Payet…

But many people aren’t convinced by France…
