Some of those same Chelsea fans that were rubbing their hands together at the thought of selling David Luiz for £50m a couple of years ago are now doing their best to convince themselves that it makes perfect sense for the club to buy him back.
Unfortunately for them, most people that know even the slightest bit about football don’t agree.
Take Julien Laurens, for example. The French football journalist is a supporter of Paris Saint-Germain and has seen plenty of Luiz during his time over the Channel.
Appearing on Mark Champman’s show on BBC Radio 5 Live, he serves up a pretty damning assessment of the Brazilian ‘defender’, claiming that he returns to Chelsea a worse player then when he left.
“He’s been a liability for PSG more than anything else. Everyone remembers the game he had against Barcelona where Luis Suarez nutmegged him twice in the Champions League quarter-final at the Parc des Princes. I have to say that he hasn’t improved since leaving Chelsea. He’s probably coming back a worse player than when he left.”

Luiz, who was part of Chelsea’s Champions League winning side in 2012, returns to the club for a fee that’s believed to be just £18m shy of what the club received for him two years ago.
