French television says Sturridge’s goal has saved The Queen

Wait, what?

Carl Anka

We know about a manager being saved by a late goal, but a monarch?

Daniel Sturridge’s late late strike in England 2-1 victory of Wales sent fans into delirium. After being a goal down at half-time, Roy Hodgson seemed low on ideas.

But his second half substitutions paid off, as the ultra-attacking move to introduce Jamie Vardy, Marcus Rashford and Daniel Sturridge saved England’s Euro 2016 campaign and perhaps Roy Hodgson’s job.

And apparently The Queen, at least, according to French television.

The Queen was nice enough to gift us an extra two hours in the pub on the weekend England’s started their campaign against Russia, and we know she is Arsenal fan (sort of).

Would she really have been at risk and forced to abdicate had Wales prevailed and England crashed out of the Euros in the group stage? Probably not.

But it’s nice to pretend.

Now if The Queen could sort us out a collective Bank Holiday on Tuesday so we can all deal with our hangovers after the Russia v Wales and Slovakia v England games, we’d be much obliged.

What a wonderful day of Euro 2016 action. And we’ve still got two games to go today. Isn’t football blooming ace?
