He was certainly not impressed…
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was caught swearing and shouting at his players as he marched off the pitch following the Old Lady’s 1-1 draw against AC Milan on Sunday.
The Italian is believed to have questioned whether or not his players ‘even want to play for Juventus’, with other reports in Italy suggesting that he shouted ‘you are playing for Juventus’ in what was an evidently furious tone.
The 54-year-old certainly didn’t hold back in his post-match press conference, either.
“I’m angry tonight,” he told DAZN after the game. “We had a good first half, in the second half we risked losing it. Until the 1-1, we were in full control.
“What makes me angry are the final 15 minutes. We should’ve suffered more, been ready to fight tooth and nail. At the moment you can’t look at being aesthetically beautiful, you just take the result, even if it’s ugly.”
Juventus have endured an underwhelming start to their Serie A campaign – going winless in their first four matches for the first time in 60 years after draws against Udinese and Milan and defeats to Empoli and Napoli.
Whilst The Old Lady fans shared the same frustration as their manager – who has won the Serie A on six occasions – many of them were also critical of a number of Allegri’s decisions during Sunday’s draw, mainly regarding his substitution of Paulo Dybala.
“I will admit that I made mistakes on the substitutions,” Allegri revealed. “I got it wrong. I should have put more defensive players on and put the 1-0 lead under lock and key, so I apologise for that.”
Although the 54-year-old was apologetic for the substitutions that he made, he ensured that he ended the press conference by taking another dig at his players, suggesting that they also need to take responsibility for the club’s disappointing start to the new season.
“I know you lot love talking about tactical systems,” said a frustrated Allegri. “But when you are in front with 15 minutes to go, having practically not allowed Milan any shots on target, the system is irrelevant. You can be disorganised but you need to be determined.
“If we take this attitude, it’s unlikely we can win the league.”
The Juventus players won’t have to wait long to make things right as they travel to Spezia on Tuesday night hoping to secure their first league win of the season.
