Four more years
Gareth Southgate has reportedly agreed terms with the FA for a new contract that would see him continue as England manager for four more years.
The new deal would see the 48-year-old earn £3m per year, plus performance related bonuses.
His current contract ends after Euro 2020m, but the new deal would see him lead the England team into the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
Southgate’s appointment initially sparked controversy due to his lack of experience, but after a successful run with the U21 squad, the FA were confident in his ability to manage the senior squad.
And it paid off, as Southgate took an unfancied, inexperienced England side to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 28 years. Unfortunately it ended in defeat, but the campaign reignited the love between the fans and the national team, and for that Southgate looks set to be rewarded with a new and improved contract.
