Southgate you’re the one, you still turn me on, United finish 9th again

David Ornstein has confirmed that Erik ten Hag has been sacked as manager of Manchester United.

He announced the news this morning following the Red Devils’ defeat at West Ham United.

The club currently sit 14th in the table having lost four out of nine league games.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is ‘working with the club’ on the next steps.

Ten Hag was retained in the summer, however with the club already losing touch of the European positions, the club have now made the decision to sack him.

The club have now released an official statement:

“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

However, it was no secret the club was already looking to the future while ten Hag was still in a job, and the former England manager is potentially next in line to take up the mantle.

Southgate is currently third on the bookies favourites to replace the Dutchman at 6/1 just behind Xavi and new interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United fans could soon be singing ‘Southgate you’re the one’ from the Stretford End.
