Gareth Southgate could be set to hand four England players their first international caps

England manager Gareth Southgate has called up four uncapped players to the England squad to face Croatia and Spain in the UEFA Nations League later this month.

The players who could be set to gain their first competitive caps are Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, James Maddison and Nathaniel Chalobah, each of whom has excelled so far this season.

Sancho has been a revelation since deciding to leave Manchester City’s youth set up in 2017 for the Bundesliga. Despite featuring predominantly as an impact substitute for Borussia Dortmund, the 18-year-old has registered 6 assists in 245 minutes.

Chelsea midfielder Mount joined Frank Lampard’s Derby County revolution on loan at the start of the season and has been a key member of the side which sits just a point outside of the Championship play off spots.

Maddison has widely impressed with the ease with which he has made the step up from Championship football with Norwich City to Premier League football with Leicester City, and has been one of the Foxes’ most consistent performers so far.

While a favourite of both Southgate and the Football Association, Chalobah has struggled to find minutes under new Watford manager Javi Gracia this season. After seven Premier League games, he has featured for a total of four minutes. That however doesn’t appear to have affected Southgate’s thinking.

Here’s the entire squad to face England and Spain: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ross Barkley (Chelsea), Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham), Jack Butland(Stoke City), Nathaniel Chalobah (Watford), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), James Maddison (Leicester City), Harry Maguire (Leicester City), Alex McCarthy (Southampton), Mason Mount (on loan at Derby County from Chelsea), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling(Manchester City), John Stones (Manchester City), James Tarkowski (Burnley), Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal), Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur)
