Gomez is yet to have a scan on his injury
Gareth Southgate confirmed that Joe Gomez has suffered an injury while on international duty with England and said it was “very upsetting” to see that it occurred with no other player around him.
The Liverpool centre-back will undergo scans, after which it will be clearer how serious the injury is.
In Wednesday evening’s press conference ahead of England’s friendly against Ireland, manager Gareth Southgate said: “I can’t tell you how serious it is yet as he is yet to have scans.
“What was upsetting was to see he was in a fair bit of pain. There was nobody around him when the injury happened. I didn’t like that element of it.
“We’re hoping and praying it’s not long term.”

Gomez’s injury will come as a huge blow to Liverpool, who are already without their leading centre-back Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho, who filled in for Van Dijk alongside Gomez before suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League.
Gomez’s injury will give his international teammates Eric Dier and Michael Keane a chance to impress Southgate alongside Harry Maguire in this international break.
