Gary Cahill looks set to join Fulham on loan until the end of the season, when his contract at Chelsea will expire, according to the Evening Standard.

The former England international has won everything there is to win with Chelsea since joining in January 2012 from Bolton, but has grown frustrated at a lack of game time under Maurizio Sarri, having only made 7 appearances this season – only one in the Premier League.

Fulham have already reached their loan limit from other Premier League clubs, having signed Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Calum Chambers on temporary deals in the summer. To bring Cahill in, Fulham would have to make one of those deals permanent or send one of them back to their parent clubs.

Cahill would bring much needed experience to a backline that has been chopped and changed all season and holds the worst defensive record in the Premier League, having conceded 47 goals already this season.

Fulham will also be without Alfie Mawson for the foreseeable future after the defender suffered a knee injury which manager Claudio Ranieir believes to be “serious”.
