There was a time when football clubs carried out their business with a modicum of decorum.
Sensible signings for sensible sums and even probably sensible haircuts too.
Those days are long gone. Now it’s all crazy money, crazy prices and even crazier hair-dos.
Football has gone bonkers. You can blame agents, you can blame the media and you can blame Mario Balotelli’s hairdresser for the bewildering phantasmagoria of insanity the Beautiful Game now serves up.
But Gary Neville lays the blame squarely at the door of the transfer window, saying it’s become a circus – and he wants action.
We’re not saying he’s directly referring to Manchester United, but the tweet comes as his former club have reportedly signed a 19-year-old French lad, with 11 goals in 52 games, for a deal which could reach £58m…while also seeing the summer’s most protracted transfer saga with David De Gea potentially collapsing at the 11th hour because of a balls up.
Make of that what you will.
Football authorities have to stop the circus that the transfer windows have become. Transfer system needs complete overhaul! Good morning
