Gary Neville puts up with a lot of nonsense from trolls.
High-profile figures in football are always going to be inundated with abuse from rival supporters and most are accustomed to it.
But nobody should have to tolerate lies being spread about them on a forum where so much fake news is spread.
Neville understandably couldn’t bite his tongue after one so-called supporter made a ludicrous claim about the former Manchester United right-back this weekend.
One Twitter-user claimed that Neville, a co-owner of Salford City, had not only turned down the request for a photograph with a young fan but actually pushed the child over.
It was a statement so ridiculous that only the most gullible of people would have believed it but Neville made a point of rubbishing the claim immediately.
At the time of writing, the original tweet had been retweeted over 200 times which means that the baseless claim had been gathering traction before Neville made the truth known in no uncertain terms.
Thankfully, Neville’s actual character was praised in the responses to the social media post because even rival supporters revealed that the Sky Sports pundit always takes the time out to chat to supporters.

Doubt this happened. Met @GNev2 on the train. I’m an @LFC fan and he chatted and gave me time of day. Not easy for me to say as a liverpool red, but he’s a top fella, great footy knowledge too #greatpundit

Not in a million years @GNev2 would ever do that.

Like @idonno07 I’m also a @LFC fan and I am disgusted with this accusation @GNev2 is a top guy IMO & would never do such a thing. You ought to be ashamed of yourself @Gary_short1 you actually could be sued for this and should be, fucking low life, get a job!

Someone I know had a photo with you yesterday. I’ve had a photo with you in the past. You are always polite even when you are in a rush. Top bloke.

This clearly didn’t happen, what a muppet. I met @GNev2 on a train a few months ago and he was great with my kids, despite clearly being tired after a long day
