“Rubbish.”
Gary Neville pulls no punches in commentary, as Arthur Masuaku found out on Sunday afternoon.
The West Ham defender was on the end of a 4-0 drubbing at Old Trafford to Manchester United, and his actions in the run-up to Romelu Lukaku’s second goal was highlighted.
The French defender was spotted laughing as West Ham prepared to defend a United free-kick, from which Lukaku scored.
“I don’t like to single out players,” Thierry Henry said on Sky Sports, before singling out a player.
“But look at Masuaku there. He is laughing at Lukaku. Lukaku was not laughing. Â If you defend like this you are going to get punished. You cannot defend like this. I know you are playing in the Theatre of Dreams, but you cannot be day-dreaming like that.”
Neville went a step further than Henry with his criticism. The former United defender, who was on co-commentary duty for Sky, predicted West Ham manager Slaven Bilic will be extremely unhappy with Masuaku for laughing seconds before conceding a goal.
“He will be furious when he sees that goal. His laughing left-back. Get him off. Rubbish.”
