These are the goals nominated for this year’s Puskas Award

JOE

11 nominations. Only one can win

The nominees are now in for this year’s prestigious Puskas Award, which is handed down each year to the scorer of the best goal in the world in the previous 12 months.

Considering the award, you’ll not be surprised to hear that there are plenty of bangers involved, though only one goal from the past year’s Premier League action.

That comes from Son Heung-min, whose solo run and strike against Burnley in December of last year was good enough to be considered.

The next closest goal, geographically at least, comes from Dundalk midfielder Jordan Flores. Back in February at Shamrock Rovers’ Tallaght Stadium, Flores connected with a corner as well as anyone has ever caught a ball as he acrobatically met it in the air above his shoulder.

The result was a pile-driver off his left boot and a screamer right into the net.

Always look for more angles when the joy is this much.

He’s in very worthy company though.

FIFA unveiled their list of nominees on Wednesday morning and, alongside Flores, some absolute belters are being honoured, including Luis Suarez’s back heel for Barcelona against Mallorca.
