Juventus terminated his contract this summer despite it having a year left to run, desperate to clear some money off the wage bill. German midfielder Sami Khedira was also let go by Juve.
As a free agent, Higuain received offers from Spain, England Spain and China, but has decided to move west to Florida to play for David Beckham’s Inter Miami side.
The striker will become Inter Miami’s second high profile signing of the summer, after bringing in French World Cup winning midfielder Blaise Matuidi, also on a free from Juventus.
With Matuidi’s energy in midfield and Higuain’s finishing up top, Beckham and co. are building a formidable side this summer.
Both players are in their 30s however, and are already the wrong side of the proverbial hill. But in the short term, they are a statement of intent from an MLS side who have only competed in eight matches in their very short history.
