He’s coming home.
After all sorts of speculation about a potential move to the Premier League, Mario Gotze is rejoining his old club Borussia Dortmund. The media in Germany are reporting that the deal will be worth around £19m.
There is no doubting the playmaker’s natural gifts, but his time at Bayern Munich has been a frustrating one. A combination of indifferent form and niggling injuries meant he was never a first-team fixture.
Perhaps partly due to lazy journalism, there was a lot of talk of Gotze possibly signing for Liverpool, to join his former mentor Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. It led to months of debate about how likely a deal would be.
In the wake of the Dortmund news breaking, a number of rival fans have taking to social media to mock Liverpool for missing out on the player…even though there’s no concrete evidence the club were in for him.
As for Liverpool supporters, many got a tad giddy when the player was first rumoured to be joining, but the sense now is it’s no great loss. That’s the party line anyway…

Don't care if Gotze has finally decided to leave Bayern. Don't want him. Massively overrated. #LFC

The bottom line if that they better get the rest of the window right. I don't care that much about Gotze.
