‘Gracious’ is not a word you’d use to describe Donald Trump’s New Year’s message

Not out of character.

“And now, we move onto liars.”

Donald Trump didn’t reference Father Ted Crilly’s famous Golden Cleric speech in a New Year’s message to his Twitter followers, but the similarities between the two aren’t hard to find.

Trump will officially be inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20 but rather than look ahead to what’s to come when he’s in charge, he used his New Year’s message as an opportunity to stick the knife into his haters and those who doubted him in the last 12 months.

Trump’s New Year’s message was the latest interesting post from his Twitter account, coming as it did after he praised Vladimir Putin for delaying a response to US sanctions, implemented by the Obama administration, which included the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from the US in response to alleged interference in the presidential election.

With only weeks to go until Trump’s inauguration, is this the type of address we can expect?
