Harry Kane is looking likely to return from injury much earlier than expected, and could feature in Tottenham’s squad this weekend when they travel to Burnley.

During Tottenham’s clash with Manchester United at Wembley on January 13th, Kane sustained an ankle injury, which has become something of an annual occurrence, and was expected to be sidelined until the start of March at the earliest.

But Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has said he could make the cut to be included in the match-day squad for their trip to Turf Moor on Saturday, depending on how he fares in training on Friday.

“He’s very good,” Pochettino said in his press conference on Thursday.

“I think we need to assess him in one more training session tomorrow and then decide. But I think he’s doing well. I’m happy with him and maybe he’s going to be available to be part of the squad on Saturday.”

Pochettino denied that Kane was ‘ahead of schedule’ despite reports suggesting he wouldn’t return to full training until early March.

“Everyone knows that Harry is an animal,” he explained.

“He wants to be ready as soon as possible. He did everything to try to recover.”

Spurs have been without their talisman for seven matches so far, but have managed to win five of them, losing the other two – although those losses came in both domestic cups.

Incredibly, Spurs are just five points off the top of the Premier League table, despite missing Kane and Dele Alli, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Fulham, for the past few weeks.

Kane’s return will be a welcome boost for the club who are still competing on two fronts, and look to have all but guaranteed themselves a place in the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Borussia Dortmund 3-0 at Wembley last week.
