Harvey Elliott shares injury update on Instagram

Daniel Brown

The football world has rallied to support the youngster

Harvey Elliott has taken to Instagram to express his appreciation for the ‘love and support’ shown to him by the ‘entire football world’ following the injury he sustained during Liverpool’s 3-0 victory at Elland Road yesterday.

Elliott, 18, dislocated his ankle in the second half after a challenge from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, who, after a brief VAR check, was shown a straight red card for his tackle.

Whilst exiting the field on a stretcher, the talented youngster was quick to acknowledge the support given to him by the majority of Leeds United fans. He also provided a brief update on his condition via his Instagram as he made his way to hospital in an ambulance.

When the former Fulham man arrived at Leeds General Infirmary, he still managed to show his class by gifting a young football fan his match-worn shirt and one of his boots that he had worn during yesterday’s encounter.

Elliott has now been discharged from hospital, with surgery expected in the next few days. It is believed that once the 18-year-old has undergone his procedure, Liverpool will be better equipped to provide an update on his prognosis.

Despite the uncertainty of how long he will be out injured for, the Reds attacking midfielder has again taken to Instagram to express his appreciation for the ‘love and support’ shown to him by the ‘entire football world’ following the incident.

“I’m of course absolutely devastated with what happened yesterday at Leeds, but have been totally overwhelmed by the love and support shown to me by the entire football world following the injury,” said Elliott.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out or sent messages to me and my family, it means so much to us. Also a massive thanks to everyone inside Elland Road for the reception you gave me immediately after it happened ❤️.

“I am now fully focused on my recovery and will give everything in my rehabilitation to be back out there as soon as I can. I know I have an incredible support network behind me at Liverpool and together we will get through this.

“To all of the Liverpool fans, your support means the world to me. I’m one of you and I can’t wait to be back faster, fitter and stronger to help the team in the future.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone! ❤️#HE67?.”

Both Liverpool and Elliott will be hoping for positive news following the youngster’s surgery this week, however, they will more than likely be expecting a long lay-off for the 18-year-old.
