Warrington defeated Kiko Martinez on Saturday night
Josh Warrington broke his jaw in his spectacular world title seventh-round victory over Kiko Martinez, promoter Eddie Hearn said.
The 31-year-old was victorious in front of his hometown Leeds crowd at the First Direct Arena and secured his first victory since 2019.
The two-time world champion endured a difficult 2021, in which he lost and drew to Mexican fighter Mauricio Lara.
Warrington was taken to hospital after the fight
While Martinez suffered cuts above both eyes and on his forehead, it was Warrington who was taken immediately to hospital after the bout with a suspected broken hand and fractured jaw.
Now, Hearn has confirmed that Warrington suffered a clean break of his jaw – sharing an x-ray image of the crack on social media at 3.50am.
He wrote: “Confirmed from the hospital @J_Warrington clean break of his jaw prior to stopping Kiko Martinez to win the world title tonight.”

Warrington, who now has several options in a highly competitive 126lb division, is eyeing-up a fight against WBA ‘regular’ champion Leigh Wood, who was in attendance on Saturday night.
Asked about a potential clash with his British rival, Warrington said: “If we need to go and boot the doors off of the City Ground, we’ll do it. We’ll do it but for a long time we’ve wanted to go to the States.
“These lot [the fans] have their passports at the ready, credit cards at the ready. We want an away day.”
Hearn fuels the fire regarding a Stateside fight
Hearn also discussed the prospect of a Stateside fight for Warrington, suggesting it would be ‘Ricky Hatton-esque’.
He told BBC Radio 5 : “Josh has long wanted a trip to America and it would be Ricky Hatton-esque if we could do it. There’s mandatory as well and loads of politics.
“It looked like his career might be over, but he came back and regained the belt. He’s back in control with big nights ahead.”
