We were all wondering.
Despite being frustrated for long periods of the match, Manchester City continued their winning sequence with a dramatic winner against Southampton.
Not for the first time this season, Raheem Sterling proved to be the difference as his last-minute goal could prove to be crucial at the end of the season.
The two goals that they scored against Southampton now means that City have hit 44 goals in 14 league matches. To counteract such a blistering attack, opponents are rightfully allowed to use any tactics that they deem fit.
If a manager wants to park the bus or use the ‘dark arts’ against Guardiola’s men then that’s his decision. This being said, it’s clear that Guardiola wasn’t too fond of how Mauricio Pellegrino set his team up to play at the Etihad Stadium.
Regarding the confrontation with Nathan Redmond at full-time, here’s what Guardiola said: “I was telling Redmond how good he is. Southampton have some super-talented players and last season Redmond scored a superb one-on-one against us, he destroyed us, but here Southampton did not want to play. They were time wasting from the ninth minute. I just wanted them to play.”
Guardiola said that he also apologised to the referee, Paul Tierney, who had asked the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach to calm down after the incident with Redmond.
The win means that City are now eight points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.
