Bergwijn would’ve missed Spurs’ trip to Chelsea on Sunday if he had been booked
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg prevented Steven Bergwijn from getting sent off as the Tottenham winger celebrated his injury-time winner against Leicester on Wednesday.
The Dutchman scored two goals in as many minutes to secure an astonishing 3-2 comeback victory for Antonio Conte’s men, who were trailing 2-1 in the 95th minute.
Bergwijn, who had already been booked, ran over to the away end to celebrate with the travelling Spurs fans.
However, as he attempted to climb the advertising boards and embrace the supporters, teammate Hojbjerg pulled him back before doing so and in turn prevented a second booking.
Had the 24-year-old received a booking, he would have missed Spurs’ crucial trip to Chelsea on Sunday.
Hojbjerg – who was praised for his quick-thinking in the heat of the moment – also won the ball which started Tottenham’s counter-attacking winner late into the tie.

It has been widely reported that Spurs were open to selling Bergwijn this month and even rejected a £15m bid from Ajax earlier in the window.
Considering his last-gasp double, and the north London side’s hectic run of fixtures, Conte could potentially change his mind and keep the winger at the club.
Spurs came from behind to win the match despite being in a losing position on 94 minutes and 52 seconds, which became the latest a team has been losing a Premier League match before going on to win – bettering Manchester City’s 2012 record of 91 mins 14 secs from that now iconic match against QPR.
Conte’s side make the short journey to Stamford Bridge on Sunday hoping to remain unbeaten in the Premier League since the Italian arrived at the club.
