Ian Wright received a lot of backlash for a tweet on Friday morning.
The Arsenal legend offered his support to former Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and this didn’t go down well with some of the Arsenal supporters who follow Wright on Twitter.
It was an innocent, inoffensive and well-meaning tweet, but some Arsenal fans aren’t happy with their former player after his departure from the club at the end of the transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool in transfer worth £40m, and it seems a lot of Arsenal fans have not forgiven the winger.

Here are some of the kinder responses to Wright’s tweet from Arsenal fans:
Speak sh*t about players who are presently playing for us and show love to the backstabbers who are gone 👏👏👏👏 Good job!

It appears some Arsenal fans went too far with their criticism of Wright for showing Oxlade-Chamberlain support. The former striker tweeted on Friday night, saying he had blocked some fans of his former club.
He wrote:
“Can’t believe how many Arsenal fans I’m having to block over the ox tweet. I don’t want people like you following me. Go **** yourselves.”

He must have received a lot of unwarranted abuse to have blocked followers. Wright’s support for Oxlade-Chamberlain is in stark contrast to one of his former teammates.
Paul Merson said the player’s career is “not really going anywhere” at the moment.

“This lad needs to get back to basics,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“I know that sounds a bit stupid but he seems to be chasing his tail. Everything has to be special, do you know what I mean? Instead of just getting back on the ball and passing it five and 10 yards, and playing himself back into his career, if I’m being honest. At the moment he’s not really going anywhere.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain was a second-half substitute for Liverpool in their 3-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday.
